To:  D.S., from A.C. I came across your face today From long ago tucked back In the pages of my memories And for once I longed to go back- To a time when life was simple, To a time when dreams came true To a time when all that was to be Was joy for me and you. The years we spent as friends were golden And in them our hearts were pure There were great times had by all In a world where laughter was the cure. But as we grew we went our own ways, And our lives took many a different turn And although my heart aches for what once was, My mind knows that the best is what's yearned. So here's to our innoncence, and the days that th

I love crafting. <3 I love taking little pieces of nonsense and making it into something beautiful. Refurbishing old mirrors, restoring old oil-canvas paintings... there is so much beauty around us that I cant help but see it under the rubble and bring it to what it once was. I know, its the whole Romanticism thing kicking in, but isn't it such a wonderful feeling to see amazing and marvelous things be able to shine properly again? It's all about individualizing whats around us to show the world who we really are. What have you done lately to let your inner beauty shine through? Ever yours, #7.

So if you're reading this, you have somehow found your way to my journal. :D So, lets start by saying Hi, and thanks for spending time you'll never get back in your life on hearing what I have to say. :) So if it isn't as obvious as the nose on my face, then let me say that I am completely new to this site. I was drawn to the site because of the amount of raw (and sometimes refined) talent that is here. I love art in all forms- painting, crafting, music, dance. Art if life, and life is art. It is what makes the daily grind worth grinding away at. Having said that, it should be known that I am not HALF as talented as 99% of the other people

Thank you for the :+fav:
Thanks for accepting the invite to VIVA ELVIS.
It's still fairly new and could use all the art contributions, members and of course support that it can get. So, if you have something you'd like to share with the group don't hold back. The rules are fair and few, and everyone is welcome no matter the skill level :)
So you're into Elvis, too?

His death was the very first "real world" event that I knew about. Most of the movies were lame, but I've always loved his music.
'into Elvis' doesn't begin to cover it, but so as to not seem like some obsessive freak, we'll just go with a simple yes, I'm very into Elvis. (:

I was not born yet when he died, although if there is anything that I regret in life, it is not being alive at the same time as he. He has truly inspired my life in many ways, and I wouldn't make it through a single day without listening to his music in some form.
Yes, his movies (for the most part- although 'King Creole" and "Charro" are very decent movies where he was allowed to adequately show his acting abilities) were lame. Its another sad part of life, because if the wretched Col. Parker (I despise that man) wouldn't have been so hell-bent on monopolizing all of Elvis' fame, Elvis would have had several more opportunistic outlets to show just how talented he really was, yet instead his acting career became just another unsolved mystery of how the greatest artist to ever live could have been but never was.
The influence and legacy of "Colonel" "Parker" was, indeed, toxic.

Even so, the responsibility for seeking (or avoiding) a reckoning with "Parker" must ultimately be laid at Elvis' doorstep: Elvis chose avoidance.
Agreed. Elvis was a grown man who made his own choices and who is ultimately held responsible for his demise. However, I can look at milestones big and small that Elvis came to in his life that, if under the influence of someone other than Tom Parker, I feel that his final scenes would have played out completely differently.

For instance, if Parker would have allowed Elvis to play in the film 'A Star is Born' (the part was instead given to Christopherson, who used it as a great means to further his own career), Elvis' acting career would have taken a completely different turn. He would have been led to other great roles no doubt and his own personal morale of where his life was going would have improved. With an improved morale, he wouldn't have turned to (as many) prescription drugs. Its a long, complicated, and winding road, but the littlest of details (had they been handled differently) could have changed his life, and quite possibly saved it. It was all about the little things for Elvis- the smallest of details are what literally shaped his life.

Now having said all that, Elvis was no doubt far before his time. There was no standard by which to compare him to. Motion picture and musical artist today know to stand up for and protect their rights as free moral agents from the oppressing and edacious minds that are akin to Parker. Today's artist can look to situations like Elvis' and see what worked and what didn't: Elvis had no one to look to for such examples. He was the one that set the standards for so much of the entertainment industry as it is today. With such an epic beginning and entrance as this was there an almost predestined and inevitable need for an exit to be just as epic, however tragic and heart wrenching as it may be.
Welcome to DA! :D :D :D
